Change your Boot Video on Nokia N900

10:26 AM | ,

Bored of seeing the hands holding together and that familiar Nokia sound when you boot up your phone? Well yeah now I will teach you how to change your Boot Screen video with a few simple steps below. There are 2 methods, the command-typing X-Terminal method or the easy-install-application method

Manual Method

Firstly, you will need to download your preferred video in the format of avi and not longer than 20 seconds and save it in your Nokia N900>Documents folder. For a list of recommended videos, you can check it out here

For this whole tutorial, the example video name I am going to use is myboot.avi

Create a text file and name it default.conf. In default.conf your text should look like this

For the example above, the name of my video is myboot.avi. Take note that the file name of your video should be the same as the on in default.conf .You can always write this default.conf in your PC and transfer it over to your N900 through Bluetooth or for those who has the knowledge can write it in the X-Terminal using vi.

Again save this default.conf file into the N900>Documents folder.

So now you should have your avi video and your own default.conf file in the N900>Documents folder. Then type all this commands in the X-Terminal. Press enter after each line

sudo gainroot
cp /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/default.conf /etc/hildon-welcome.d/
mv /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/myboot.avi /opt/
cd /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/
ln -s /opt/myboot.avi myboot.avi

Or for those having problems with the commands above can try the second method
BootScreen Method

It is available in the extras-devel repo and you practically get to just click and choose which video you want. Apparently the only possible videos are in .avi form. It would be installed in your Settings for those finding for the app on the list of applications.

So well there you have it. A new video to show off to your friends.
