Set Restrictions on Internet Access to Keep Child Safe Online

9:00 PM | ,

It is a tedious job to keep tracking your Child’s Internet access logs and also suggesting them not to visit some specific websites because of inappropriate content within them. There should also be some time limits set on the computer usage to make sure that the Child can enjoy a offline life in the form of playing games and also devote some time towards their education at home. In this article you will find out about a software which is not only going to Block access to Adult Websites but it would offer a complete child safety application with huge number of features any parent would like to install on their computer.

This Parental Control Software is called as KidsWatch which is a secure and paid software costing 45.95$ and also available as a 15 days trail application. Let us teach you on how to set this software on your computer and make it completely secured and keep a watch on your kids in the digital world.

Similar to any Computer Protection for Kids software this software also would require you to create a Parent Account while setup and then assign the child access based on your preferences. The software uses the Windows User Accounts feature where in you can create different accounts with security or access levels and also a Guest Account for your friends to login. Hence each child you would like to access the computer should have a separate account setup with their own personalized desktop and documents folders. If Parents use the same computer then they should also have a separate account following which they as a parent can login to the KidsWatch Administrator Account to setup and modify the time management and internet settings for their children.

If you are already logged into your computer with Admin Account Access then you need to select the Account and then Proceed towards the installation.

The next step would be the selection of Childs Account. You can click on the Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > User Accounts and create a New account, though In case you don’t have any previously created account, click on the ‘Add Child’ button and you will be able to create a new one very easily. You will be asked with the Login username & password twice to continue.

You will be shown with different options on the Restriction Level Selection for Child Account. Based on the age you can select the account level and the restrictions would be enabled based on the same. If you select the level at Child [Age 7 and under] then there would be Heavy Filtering with limited computer and Internet access, with no chatting. Following are the details on the same.
Restriction Levels & Description :

  • Child [7 and under] – Heavy filtering with limited computer and Internet access, no chatting
  • Youngster [8 to 10] – Moderate filtering with limited computer and Internet access, no chatting
  • Adolescent [11 to 11] – Medium filtering with limited computer and Internet access, chat monitored
  • Teen [14 to 18] – Light filtering with moderate computer and Internet access, chat monitored
Next you will be sent a Daily Report based on the preferences you select. You can select any of the following four options for whch you will receive daily usage reports.

  • Visited Web Sites
  • Chat Monitoring
  • Computer Usage
  • Program Usage
  •

Once the Child Account with access details are set, you will have to select the same and click on Next. You will be asked to enter a email address where the software would automatically send the daily usage reports, real time alerts & child monitoring reports to. Under the ‘Real Time Alerts’ you can select the option of ‘Send me an email any time my child attempts to visit a blocked web site.’ Along with this you can also select the option of ‘Send me an email if a word or phrase is encountered in my child’s chat conversation that matches any of the 1300 words on the flagged terms list which would include words like drinking, guns etc.

Once all the options are set, you will be asked to reboot your computer once to make sure that the preferences are set and activated. The very first time you run the application you will be asked to continue with the trial license or else Activate your copy if you have purchased the same. You will have to enter the 16 digits Alpha-Numeric serial number to get the software activated.

The software would automatically set everything based on the child’s access levels, though you can still set a few more options and customize the software based on your needs. The default settings set by this software are listed below.
